Advert Analysis #2

Vessi Commercial - Waterproof shoes This is a Vessi commercial that advertises waterproof shoes, it was released in the 19th of October 2021. Vessi prides themselves to have one of the first waterproof shoes, that is also lightweight, easy to use and versatile  in any situation.  Media Language The overall tone of the advertisement is pretty upbeat. The melodic beats and the colorful lighting help setup the happy mood. There is a few media connotations within the text, such as how they described the shoes as being lightweight then showed it sitting on top of a cloud, which is lightweight ( gasses ). The fun and happy atmosphere, helps attract the viewers into a feeling of relaxation, which I think is more appealing to the target audience which are teens and young adults between the ages of 15 - 40.  Representation One stereotype that I can observe is that when the kid with the ice cram says "What about me?"  which clearly references that she's a kid that makes mistakes

Advert Analysis #1

Vans Commercial - Student Made This is an advertisement for Vans Shoes, made by a student. It was released in May 2nd 2016. Vans is an iconic shoe company that is originally made for skateboarders but eventually became popular to youths and teenagers these days. Vans promotes its shoes as  comfortable and well rounded to be used anywhere in pretty much every situation.  Media Language The person in the advert is wearing an old Vans shoe, which sort of subverts our expectations, since most people would expect the best way to advertise a product is by showing it as being completely new. But this way of storytelling, makes it so, that audience have a feeling of longevity of the product. That even an old shoe with tears can still do stuff that an otherwise new shoe could. This is furthered emphasized with various codes throughout the text. Like how dirty the skateboard looks and how the stickers on it are decaying? ( Don't know a word to explain it ). This is more appealing to skatebo

Storyboard - Timeline & Ideas

Week 1 Introduction & First Idea  Mr Nick first introduced us about the Project of making an advert, I originally thought that I had to make the plan + the video of the ad itself, which would probably be pretty challenging. But it turned out that we were only needed to make the storyboard. At home, I came up with a few ideas for the advert. My first and initial one was advertising Business Clothes. I had the idea of Having a man wearing that in a informal occasion, the motto would be 'Classy in all Scenario's'. But I scrapped the idea, because I had trouble finding out an advert scenario that could be interesting but different for a Business suit. I continued my search for a product that could be interesting. I thought food could be it, but I still liked my Business suit idea more. So after so time and Research, I finally got the idea of still using the business suit but instead of advertising that, I would focus on the shoes they're wearing. Of course I cant just

First Story Board Practice

Story Board Practice This was my attempt on making a Story board in Media Class, I did it on a commercial 'Somesuch' Money Supermarket " That's how I roll "  What I found easy - Identifying the shots, timing, movements and overall look of the scene wasn't as difficult as imagined it to be and the fact the we didn't have to be perfect on the drawings is also nice, since my drawing isn't that great.  What I found hard - Trying to draw the scene so it can look like the actual ones in pretty hard, Even if it doesn't have to be perfect. I didn't use any colored pens or markers is this one, which makes it pretty bland, so in the next attempt ill try to use colored markers to make it more obvious.

Semiotics

Ferdinand de Saussure Semiotics  Definition Semiotics is a study of how signs in a media texts is used to convey meaning or present a message to the audience. Like how connotation is the Literal meaning while denotation is the implied meaning, For example the color red has a literal meaning of the color red, while the implied meaning could be blood, romance and etc.  Different signs would always communicate different meaning and depending on the interpreter or the person seeing,  it could be good or bad.  There are three types of Semiotics  1. Icon:  It has a physical resemblance to the meaning it signifies.  Example; Mustache, Whiskers on a cat 2. Symbol:  It does not resemble the meaning that it is trying to give, but as the symbols are recognized in a cultural view , or known by many people, as its often associated with the meaning.  Examples: It doesn't meaning anything but  its often associated with Men or Women. 3.
