Moral Panic + Case Study

1. Concern:

An event that happened in the world that sparks social anxiety.

2. Hostility:

One group or culture is blamed for the cause of the problem by the media. These people are seen as "FOLK DEVILS". As a result, society as a whole would see them on a worse way, to the point of canceling.

3. Consensus:

Happens almost at the same time with Hostility and In this part, The event would take over the narrative. Where the news would constantly talk about it, Movies or films would be made based on it and Everyone would be discussing it.

4. Disproportionally:

Often wise, the event would be exaggerated by the media, Making the audience feel like it is more serious and dangerous than what it actually is. They do this, by adding unnecessary remarks, untruthful facts and frankly lies to get the audience riled up.

5. Volatility:

As a result of all of these controversies, The Government conduct a change that would fix the problem. But in most cases, the problem would just be forgotten after a while, Usually replaced with another Moral Panic.

Case Study

Bjorka

A Hacker claiming to be from Poland who had swept through Indonesia by storm. They had caused many controversies to arise as a result of the many Data leaks and "Attacks" that the Indonesian Government suffered. For example, 1.3 Billion Indonesian Driver Licenses were leaked and sold on the dark web.

But on the other hand, He frequently called out Indonesian political figures for the rising fuel prices, sparking protest all over Indonesia, To the point that He hacked PERTAMINA's database ( the main Government funded fuel   Company for Indonesia ) and threaten to release it to the Internet, Giving Him a Robin Hood sort of 'aura'. Some support Him, some are against.

1. Concern:

Data leaks that happened in Indonesia as a result of Bjorka . They claimed, that it was quite easy for them to take the data as a result of the horrible data protection that Indonesia has.

2. Hostility

The Government of course blamed Bjorka themselves for the cause of this problem, as it is never right to steal people's personal data. But at the same time, the Indonesian people starts the question whether or not their data is really safe under their Governments' hand? when it was so easy to acquire it by a hacker.

3. Consensus

Media Outlets all over Indonesia, quickly tune into the phenomenon and broadcasted the entire news through National Television and the Internet.

They Give, the most recent updates to what Bjorka is up to, Like the one above, They claiming to have secret information about the President.

4. Disproportionally

While the news of leaks does seem pretty serious, The Indonesian Government had tried multiple times to downplay the situation. Making the public think that it's not as dangerous as it actually seems, which in subverts the idea of Moral Panic. Although because of the sides, many people distrust the Government while some completely supports them.

5. Volatility

Of course, with all these problems arising as a result of this hacker, The Indonesian Government is now on an active search for the identity of the people behind these "Attacks". After an investigation, The Police had claimed a few people all from Indonesia to be suspects, some are even taken into custody. The truth of whether or not they were the ones behind, is still unknown. But at this point, the news had died down considerably as Bjorka seems to be forgotten.

Narrative Theory

Narrative Theory What is a Narrative? A Narrative describes on how a story is being told by a person like a Director would in their films. Unlike a plot who describes what the story is , like Harry Potter realizing he's a wizard or Luke Skywalker destroying the 1st Death Star. A Narrative combines the various  elements within the film like setting character or plot and tells that story in way for it to signify the most meaning towards audience.  A Story can be Narrated in various ways, either using first person or third person,  A sequence of a story might not always stay in line as well, Sometimes a stories would have  fragmented  sequences ( where the plot jumps back or forwards in the past or in the future ). And all the methods have their own specific uses and meaning which goes back to what the story makers want to have the audience to receive. A Typical storyline would look something like this : Beginning  ------ Middle ------ Ending

Post Modernism Case Studies

Analyze the key characteristics of postmodern media? Jean Baudrillard stated that post modernist texts is a copy of a copy in where there is reality, Heightened reality and hyper reality, with each one being more surreal than the other. A Documentary like 'Hailstorm' ( 2022 ) available on Netflix is an example of heightened reality as it includes aspects that are real such as natural environment, sounds and real life locations but at the same time includes artificial editing that creates different meaning in the form of music, narration and camera angles. While audiences would still be able to tell the difference on what's real or not. Their perception of the film changes depending on what the Producers show. The cooking show 'Hell's Kitchen' ( 2023 ) is a TV Series that haves chefs battle each other in a cooking contest. This series in considered as a Hyper Reality as audiences would struggle to grasp on what exactly is real in the film and what isn't. This
